14/4/2008New Honour For Local MP

FORMER Home Secretary John Reid became an honorary Community Warden for a patrol in Airdrie.
The Airdrie and Shotts MP was with the wardens to see first hand the work they do in the community, combating anti-social behaviour, cleaning up local "grot spots" and acting on complaints.
Mr Reid said: "Being with the Wardens today has given me a much better appreciation of what they do.
"I, like many, get reassured when I see them around town and often stop to have a chat. But these men and women do much more; they patrol in all weathers, picking up and disposing of needles, get graffiti cleaned, report litter and fly-tipping and generally maintaining the quality of our urban environment.
"They can also quickly report and deal with anti-social behaviour."
As part of his day Mr Reid patrolled the Airdrie shopping area and surrounding streets as well as help clear a well-known drug hot-spot.
Community wardens act as a point of contact between the public, community groups, businesses, the council and other local organisations on issues relating to anti-social behaviour.
