29/4/2008Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, Council Boosts collections

NEW recycling initiatives and changes to the bin collection system are set to be introduced in North Lanarkshire.
From Monday June 2, residents in the North and Central areas will be asked to start using their blue recycling bins for the disposal of plastic food containers and bottles, as well as old newspapers, empty aerosol cans, aluminium foil and cardboard.
Residents in the South areas will not come into the new scheme until the end of August - allowing time for the first phase to settle.
Education officers are making home visits as part of a huge communications campaign in the area to tell residents how the scheme will work, while roadshows will be taking place across the North and Central areas in the coming weeks.
Residents will have the opportunity to put questions to officers at the roadshows, and in the next week a special link from the council's internet home page will provide easy access to the available information.
Those with blue bins in the north and central areas should not use them for anything other than paper until June 2 however, while those in the south similarly should use their bins as normal until August.
More information can be obtained from the council’s environmental helpline on 01698 403110.

Well done NLC for finally getting it together with a good recycle programme... since the last one ended I have been recycling what I can via recycle centres, but this has been inconvenient. Everyone has a role in keeping this planet clean and reducing waste by recycling is something we can all do by simply placing things in a different bin, it's not hard! I just hope this scheme is here to stay.
